About Ravenshoe Observatory.

Ravenshoe Observatory is a newly established facity, the realisation of a life long dream to own a research quality telescope housed in a building designed for the purpose, Located in Ravenshoe a small town approximately 1 and a half hours inland from Cairns, Tropical North Queensland, Australia.

Ravenshoe boasts as being the highest town in Queensland at nearly 1000 meters above sea level. Whilst the tropical wet season can dampen your spirits with persistant cloud and rain, for the rest of the year the skies are clear and dark, with no light polution and not too much in the way of jetstream problems.

From this location at 17 degrees South you can also get a good view of All of the Southern hemisphere and a good portion of the northern hemisphere at different times of the year.

It is my hope that I can with this facility encourage others to share my passion and develope thier own interest in this fascinating and rewarding pastime, It is my intention on completion of the facility to allow visits and supervised use of the equipment, to fellow enthusiasts, school groups, other clubs, and anobody else that may be interested..
